Hi MaD,
Yes I've seen that the P9516 announced itself as a Lenovo K1 bluetooth device.

To change the USB Vid Pid you need to use the linux abootimage package to extract the kernel prop file and the init-usb.rc file from boot.img.
Then you change the vid/pid in init-usb.rc and you recompact the kernel into boot.img.

If you only use Linux with you tablet it's not necessary to do that.
Linux does not care of the vid/pid to connect in adb or nvflash.
That's only a windows problem. It needs the correct vid/pid to load the appropriate driver.

Last image from Kaschemme.
That's a CM10.1 NIGHTLY build.
As usual the P9516 version is available via the first post of this thread.

What's new in this build :
- fixed camera blob
- fix volume rescan
- enable Volume button wake
- fix menu solution (some where to large)
- fix nvcam permission
- add ARCH_ARM_HIGH_OPTIMIZATION flag

Kaschemme is preparing another NIGHTLY build including the CWM recovery update to 6.0.3.2.
(K1 world has some problem to use the adb update script)

If that's the only mod, I'll skip that image modification. (You can use the nvflash tool)

@MaD
It looks like the Bluetooth problem comes from the change in the BT stack.
In JB 4.2.2, they have abandoned the Bluez stack.
So again we have a problem with the BCM43xx drivers !

Not an easy to solve issue ...

Perhaps Kaschemme has not remarked your bug report, because you have edited a previous post to add your bug description.
Or perhaps he will only fix that in the new release CM10.1.1 .
He announced that this will be the last CM10.1 update.

The K1 image will not resolve that issue, as the hardware and the kernel are exactly the same, except for the build properties, USB VID/PID and boot animation.

Anyway, it's time to explain how to permanently convert your Lifetab into an Ideatab K1 so that you can use directly kaschemme updates.
In Kaschemme image updates, there is a K1 condition in the update script to prevent the update to run in non K1 machines.

To update your P9516 in a K1, go to the Google Playstore, grab and install BuildProp Editor
Launch BuildProp editor and scroll down to ro.product.device build property.
Modify that property from MD_LIFETAB_P9516 to K1 and save the new property.

Now you can use Kaschemme images for the Ideapad.
Except for the bootloader, you tablet will look like an Ideapad K1.
In case of warranty call, you can revert to the Medion config, doing exactly the opposite.

Yves

PS please note that Google (PlayStore) will give you a warning due to the tablet change.

According to this post, I tried to make my Medion device to a Lenovo K1. Ameisent├Ątowierer mentioned some posts later, that this should also be changed in CWM. Any advice how to do this?
Changing the boot animation is no problem for me, so it would be nice to try directly kaschemmes work.

Probably I have to flash forward and backwards with that BT problem, or have a dual boot kernel as I have for my SGS 1 and 3.
Well, as I'm no developer only a consumer, I have to wait what others give me to play with...

@MaD
Kaschemme has just issued a new CM10.1 release 20130718 including the CWM 6.0.3.3 update.
He is using a script that will overwrite your current CWM during the image update.
He is using dd to flash the new recovery image.
I guess it will fully convert your tablet into a K1, except the bootloader.

@YLG80
I tried this already: It leads me to an error 7 fail installation with build.prop mentioned- is this probably the cwm-build.prop? Because I changed my build.prop already.
I could install a kaschemme CM10 build some time ago, when my tablet was identified as a Samsung i9100. But with the next update I had a lot of errors, so I came lucky back to your builds!

Hello!
I also had the error 7,
I have changed the "updater-script" file!
that you only have to make once, from then you have a Lenovo k1 and can update the firmware of Kaschemme without problems.
you need to unpack the firmware, then in the "meta-inf -> com -> Google -> android" "updater-script" open it ever file with the program, "notepad + +" and delete the first line! then the extracted data zipping back! finished, and then flash!

For me it works

Sorry for my bad english!

Hello 00feichti,

I thought that it is almost impossible to change the content of the zip-file without re-signing the zip-file.

Because the file META-INF/MANIFEST.MF in the zip contains information to verify the integrity of each file, like in this example:
----- snip -----
Name: META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
SHA1-Digest: ssGxk8StApS4xMoxPRa6Amryo4o=
----- snap -----

So I wonder how you were able to break the security checks so easily....

Micky
Like my work?

Did you use the install unsigned zip option when in CWM recovery?
This could explain why you can install a modified zip file not being re-signed.

For those having problems to install the Ideapad K1 CWM recovery, you could try to use the following Nvflash script.
This is still version 6.0.3.2, but after flashing that image you shoudn't have any problem to do the upgrade if your
tablet has the K1 build.prop.
I've sent that link to an XDA-developer user how had problems to make the upgrade using the adb script.
But I've not yet received any feedback from him !

Thanks to you all. This one did the trick. I did it on my Lifetab with Rootexplorer: unpacked the zip, deleted the mentioned first line in updater script, "reziped" the rom and was able to flash.
Don't know if it helped, but as YGL80 asked I toggled zip verification to off.
I will see how my tab will behave - I really like the new functionality, but still miss BT. We will see if Android 4.3 will make it better?!

Yes BT is a problem.
But Kaschemme did a 1st class job with WiFi !
My tablet no longer hangs up ! I've never got any SOD since I've upgraded, even when moving outside from my router range.
Wifi is definitely more stable than with CM10!

Yes of course!
Also battery life seems to be improved in the last build. I will upload a picture later, when I'm on the tablet again.
Before and after the flash how much it consumed in standby with equal settings!
Sorry- deleted the right screenshot. Only this is what I found: Look at the short part with display off before the 3 reboots. 2 of them were the flashing of new roms.

Follow Kaschemme Lenovo K1 1st class images and use the CM10.1 direct OTA update with your P9516 Lifetab modified into an Ideapad K1.
(see also MaD post above)

Here is the link to download Kaschemme image dated of 20130723.
This is a signed file so no need to use the CWM unsigned file option!

www.dropbox.com/s/qpc11f8ke0nyltv/KASCHE...9516mod2lenovoK1.zip

The image has been modified (K1 check removed) to fit with the P9516 Lifetab and it will "transform" your Lifetab in a Lenovo K1.
This will allow you to receive Kaschemme updates via the OTA updater and (hopefully) directly flash his images. (see on androïd-hilfe.de)
Of course the bootloader will remain unchanged, which explains the MEDION logo still displayed when booting.

- As usual, use the recovery zip installer to install that image.(erase cache before the update)
- Upon rebooting, you will have first the Medion logo followed by the animated Lenovo Ideapad K1 splash screen.
- The CWM recovery image will be updated to 6.0.3.3

That update does not destroy your data.

After a complete reboot, you will be notified that a new update is available. (CM10.1 version of 20130810)
(See upper left corner, drag down the icon to open the notification bar and start the download.)
The downloaded file will be stored in your tablet in /sdcard/OTA_updater/download/ .
(For some reason that image cannot be downloaded directly from Kaschemme Gooimage space.)

Try the update (reboot) after the download, but for some reason it didn't work with my tablet.
It said "NON TRUSTED image" although the downloaded image was correct.

If it happens with your tablet, simply use the CWM recovery to install the new image stored in the above mentioned directory.
(erase cache before installation)
The last update will also update your CWM recovery to 6.0.3.5
That update does not destroy your data.

CAUTION :
As already stated in the 1st post of that topic, if you are afraid of doing that, due to possible warranty issues, DON'T DO THAT.

Regards
Yves

FYI
Yesterday I returned the tablet to version medion_cm-10.1-kaschemme-LT-P9516_201307010-EXPERIMENTAL-k1-3G_v1x because WiFi was again playing with my nerves with the last update via OTA.
Version 201307010 is, according to me, the best version I've ever flashed in the P9516.
WiFi rock stable, and snappy scrolling.
