TOPIC: Lenovo K1 aka Medion LIFETAB P9516 motherboard

Lenovo K1 aka Medion LIFETAB P9516 motherboard 5 years, 1 month ago #2513

Hello to everyone, My K1 got burnt while charging, found out that it was not starting after a night of charging. Opened and found that two IC and several nearby component got burnt. Now the problem is that no repair person in nearby locality is able to repair it, nor I am able to figure out the components so that I replace them. No circuit diagram available. Attaching the image of the burnt Parts. Can anybody suggest the IC and components or provide me with the circuit diagram.

Hello,
Sorry for the delay to reply to your post.
I had to replace my original motherboard also for a problem of power supply.
The original Medion/Lenovo board is still working but no battery charge.
Here are the components references :

FDMC4435BZ ( FDS4435) are conventional high power P-Channel FET switches
www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/2...HILD/FDMC4435BZ.html

From my researches, trying to fix the board :
N24 looks to be a NPN PRE-BIASED SMALL SIGNAL SOT-23 SURFACE MOUNT TRANSISTOR type DDTC115ECA
K27 looks to be 2N7002KDW

Hope it will help you to fix your board.
Yves

This is a Lenovo similar schematic from a laptop

Used mobile camera lens+ toy laser lens to get 50x image of the burnt IC and this is what I got IC is having some A or R symbol with 7 visible on the top line and FA1H26 on the bottom line.

There are many equivalent IC.
They could have used an AON7200 in a production batch, because of a short supply with the standard IC..
On my P9516 mainboard these are definitely FDMC4435 P Channel FET.
It looks like the logo on your IC is the same as this one.

Thanks for the promt replies .
Yes the Logo is exactly the same as you have shown. Can those be used interchangeably ? Also the near by components are damaged, can I replace with the ones shown in the circuit diagram ?

Yes you can change the burnt IC with a 4435 FET switch.
The FDMC4435 is widely used everywhere.
I guess you can find IC's like that in old GSM, PC motherboard etc..
They are easy to find on eBay.
The K27 marked transistor 2N7002KDW and N24 DDTC115 are also easy to find on old boards.
These are very standard transistors.

I don't know why there is no Q52 on your board?
Perhaps it was not placed because you have a non 3G P9516?
I don't know. Or you have already removed it from the board.
I hope you don't have burnt tracks in the PCB.

The attached schematic was posted to show a similar circuit in another Lenovo product.
This is likely not exactly the same in the tablet.

None of the components are removed. With reference to your posted image, their were some components absent in my board. And you guess it right , it is only wifi and a non 3g board of lenovo make. Just wanted to ask why you had to replace your board despite having a excellent knowledge of components and board ?

OK for the non 3G board. That explains why certain components were not placed.
I gave up with my board because I couldn't find the failure root cause.
The tablet was still working when connected to the charger, but not with the battery only.
I've replaced several components in the battery/mains switch circuit to no avail.
So the circuit burnt on your board was likely working correctly in my own board. I should verify, though.
With no schematic it was really difficult to trace the problem.

Your problem seem more obvious.
It could have been caused by an overshoot from the charger, or a static discharge.
But you should remove the 2 burnt FET switches and check with an ohmmeter that there is no short between their output and the ground, i.e pin 123 of both IC's.
The strange thing is that the 7Amps fuse in your board been looks intact on the picture.
So there is likely no short and the FET's have probably been destroyed by another cause.

BTW, if the P9516/K1 tablet is based on a COMPAL design, the power supply circuit should be very similar to the one in the attachment.(Tegra2 tablet)
See page 24, highlighted in yellow.
Compal is almost always using the same generic PS circuit in every design.

PS In fact the design comes from Compal.
The K1 board is the Compal LA-7261P design (written on the main board)

You could have some luck to repair your board by replacing the 2 destroyed P Channel MOSFET's AON7403 by FDMC4435BZ
In the PAZ00 board (LA-6352P), there is a change note stating this :
Change smaller MOS 24 change PQ2 PQ4 from AO4435 to AON7403 3/28 DVT

There is a big difference between the two devices:
The AON7403 has an Id max of -8A only.
The AON4435 has an Id max of -10A !
The FDMC4435BZ has an Id max of -18A !

The FDMC4435MZ that is in my motherboard can handle much more current than the AON7403 (if that is that version).
