I have a doubt ...
I cannot use 3G (Just for testing)

I've double checked in my Linux PC where I patch the images, and the original Krook1 image v61 is indeed the 3G version.
My SIM card is pin protected.
How to unlock it?
I've not found any PIN setting in the settings menu.
I thought that the PIN code would be requested upon booting the tablet?
Any help on that issue?
Thanks
Yves

@Yves,

did you double check that the SIM card is inserted in the slot on the right hand side, in the right direction, and that it is securely locked in the slot? If so, it should jump out a bit as soon as you push it a bit inward with your finger nail. To reinsert and lock, just push it inward again, till you hear a light "klick".
Many people seem to have problems with lousy inserted SIM cards.

To unlock the pin of the SIM, you have to check the Security settings, find the appropriate choice there about in the middle.

Good luck and greetinx

Hello Yves,
I have tested it with the sim card from my i9000:
During the boot process you must enter the PIN and then the correct APN (in setup->network->more).
Then I turned off WiFi and using the browser to call some home pages: 3G has worked perfectly. (tested with the stock-rom and also with CM10_V6.1:)

I think that you do not have the sim card inserted correctly (the contacts downward, and the sloping edge bottom on the left side). As also described by Andri Od.

greetins

Sepp

P.S. Please excuse my ugly english.

Hi Yves,
I've changed the language, to see what are the names in french. ( having trouble with the keyboard now, characters are on different positions )

Look into
Parametres - securite - verouillage de la sim

When the sim is removed, this menu poiint still exists, but is greyed out.

Like my work?

Thanks Andri, Sepp and Mickey,

It's good to receive help so fast !

@ Andri
Yes the SIM card is correctly pushed in the slot. This is a PUSH-IN/PUSH-OUT slot.
Have tested 2 sim cards.
@ Sepp
No, there is no PIN request during the boot.

@ Mickey (thanks for the translation !
No, there is no menu item like this under settings/security.
The only grayed out menu item is ID erase.
When I check the Build properties with an editor, I see : service.ctool.3g.enable = n
Of course, because the OS does no see the SIM card.
I've switched it to yes and rebooted. No difference.

Hmmm, backup and return to ICS stock

I've never used the 3G functionality before! (only iPhone thethering)

Thanks
Yves

@Yves,

in my build.prop, the entry is identical: "service.ctool.3g.enable = n"

But 3G works like a charm (I use the CM10 6.1 build from xda-developers).

The SIM card is really in the slot at the right hand side? I read about people who have inserted it on the left hand side, in the slot for the SD card. It's mechanically the same!

Hello A.O,
No doubt.
I've a 32Gb SD in the SDcard slot.
I've used a magnifier to inspect the SIM slot.
There is no foreign matter that would prevent good contacts.
At least the build prop tells me that I've not flashed a non 3G image.

I even thought that I've bought a non 3G tab.
But you can see that the Huwaei 3G module is present on the picture of my tab guts :
www.avi-plus.com/repair-tips-forum/misce...mod/page-3.html#1451
(top left module with the CE 0682 label)

It's time to test the "restore to factory default" option.
We'll see. The Droïd is working right now !

Interesting.

During the first reboot after restore to factory default, the message "Emergency Call" was displayed on the first screen after
the CyanogenMod splash.

Then it said :
"You must refer to the SIM card information supplied with your tablet" with only the "IGNORE" option !
However, there is no "SIM unlock" in the Security settings!

Yes I've inserted the SIM like on your picture.
Good picture.
This is not in the manual !
I guess it will help many users.

No way to make the 3G working.
I've regressed the tablet down to ICS 4.0.3 stock to no avail.
I've also disassembled the tablet to double check the sim card slot circuit. No problem.

Observations :
If I flash the ICS stock, during the first reboot with a SIM card in the slot, I cannot unlock the tablet to enter in the OS.
If I remove the SIM, and reboot, then the initial OS configuration starts normally.
I can never activate the Broadband communication switch.
The tablet does never request the PIN code when booting.

If I boot with a SIM card in the slot, whatever the OS is, the status is SIM_STATE_ABSENT.
If I boot without SIM card, the status is SIM_STATE_UNKNOWN.

Under ICS, there is indeed an accessible UNLOCK SIM menu.

Enough time spent on that strange issue.
WiFi thethering is the option until I find some s/w tools to make a diagnostic.

Power Widget

If, like me, your are very disappointed to have lost your favorite Power Widget after the CM10 upgrade,
you can find another one, fully customizable, on the Play Store : WidgetSoid.
Like many others that I've tested, it does not terminate with a forced close.

Hi Yves and Ameisentätowierer,

just finished upgrading to JB according to your excellent manual posted here: www.avi-plus.com/repair-tips-forum/misce...hack-or-upgrade.html

After the Upgrade my P9516 won't connect properly to my Windows PC anymore (Win7 x64) using the USB cable: It is not detected as a mobile device (neither control anel > device maneger nor windows file explorer), but as a removable medium like an SC-card or external USB-HDD and it has a device letter attached. Trying to explore it I get messages insert removable medium. On top: any finger tap on the screen of the LT produces a sound on the PC (da-da, da-da) ...

DeviceManager.png

Explorer.png

I also own the swiss model with 64 GB.

Tried to uninstall the device and reinstall the drivers manually (as you suggested in the rooting-thread over at android-hilfe.de) ... with no luck.

Can anybody help please? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Thomas

Hello Thomas,
Nice to have you here with a CH 64Gb tablet like mine.
I would be curious to know if you can enable the 3G functionality and enter the Sim card pin code.

On your question. Did you adjust the settings under Storage?
If you touch the 3 dots on top right when you are in the Storage menu, you can select MTP, PTP or Mass Storage.

I've seen on xda that there was a problem with MTP
have a look here forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=...41&postcount=150
and here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800935

But I believe that this issue has been fixed by Krook.

Normally when I look at you screenshot, you should have no problem to connect via adb.

At A.O

Funny commands.
^SYSINFO and ^SYSINFOEX are Huawei EM820W AT commands.
I can get the answer via ttyUSB0.(with a SIM in the slot)

It looks like my Huawei modem is stuck in WCDMA !
As they don't use SIM card with WCDMA, it could explain why it says NO SIM CARD.
[CORRECTION : WCDMA is 3G ! so it's OK]

C:\adb>adb shell
root@android:/ # su
su
root@android:/ # echo -e "AT^SYSINFOEX\r" > /dev/ttyUSB0
echo -e "AT^SYSINFOEX\r" > /dev/ttyUSB0
1|root@android:/ # cat /dev/ttyUSB0
cat /dev/ttyUSB0

^SYSINFOEX:1,0,1,255,,3,"WCDMA",41,"WCDMA"

OK

With ^SYSINFO you need to check the data returned by the modem in the Huawei AT command guide.
It reports also CDMA, of course
[CORRECTION : WCDMA is 3G (CDMA is the US standard)! ]

C:\adb>adb shell
root@android:/ # echo -e "AT^SYSINFO\r" > /dev/ttyUSB0
echo -e "AT^SYSINFO\r" > /dev/ttyUSB0
root@android:/ # cat /dev/ttyUSB0
cat /dev/ttyUSB0

^SYSINFO:1,0,1,5,255,,4

OK

It's curious that the second command does not give the same results.
It says that the modem is in TD-SCDMA.

Hi,

finally my response ... first of all thanks for your help

@Sepp: Yes I guess it must be x64, as it doesn't work on my wife's nb either (never connected any android device to her notebook before), same behaviour

@Yves: Settings in storage are correct: mass storage. Device will be recognized as Linux file-cd gadget

Concerning your question: I can confirm internet doesn't work with my SIM on the CH version, in ICS V4.0.3 (stock) it worked without any problems (same SIM).

My reasons for upgrading were:
- JB runs smoother than ICS: confirmed
- wanted to find out wether in cyanogenmod the 802.1x issue of Jelly Bean was fixed: no it is not (Google fixed it in JB 4.2, my Galaxy Nexus now connects to "eduroam" university network)
