STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

Hi guys.

Instead of a 5517KUx (I wish...), I'm going to have a 5518 to get my Carnival's bonfire started. [...]

Got it.
I already started wiring it up (it's still a bit messy because I'm trying to use a buffered JTAG interface that works with Xilinx CPLDs) and looking forward to start testing. The only problem is: - some advice is needed...
Thx guys.

Best regards.

P.S.: I thought would be better to open a new thread for the other one is already too big and STi5518 it's a different processor. Hope you're OK with it guys...

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

Gave up using the buffered JTAG interface and went back to the previous one.

Test conditions:
1. STB on standby (connected to the mains but switched off; OSD showing time)
2. JTAG interface connected to the board JTAG points with test leads
3.-TMS connected to DB25/2
---TCK connected to DB25/3
---TDI connected to DB25/4
---TRST connected to DB25/5
---TDO connected to DB25/13
---GND connected to DB25/25

Result:
No problems at all, as you can see on the attached screenshot.

Best regards.

puny dump 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
dump is too puny, unless you have a dishnet receiver with 512k flash.
I would use jtag_up or skymax_up and get a full 1meg or 2meg flash.

Re:puny dump 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

That was my first attempt. After that I changed the start address and got a 1MB file. Still haven't checked the size of this flash but it's an Intel TE28F160C3TD70 and it can be 2, 4 or 8MB, as far as I can understand the datasheet...
Is there any other way of knowing the flash size besides trying to find where it starts/ends by changing the start address and get a dump (maybe I have to read the datasheet a bit more...)?
Anyway, the main purpose here is to use this STB to "play" with ucTAP/ST20 Tool Set so I get used to their characteristics and understand them better.

Thx for your support @slugworth.

Best regards.

Re:puny dump 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys (again ).

After some more datasheet reading, looks like it's a 2MB (16Mb) flash, if I'm interpreting it correctly; datasheet's page 10 refers to TE28F160C3TD70 as a 48 lead-TSOP, extended 16Mb flash...

Best regards.

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
28f16(0) divided by 8 bits so it's a 2meg flash
28f32(0) would be a 4meg and so forth

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
I guess you could start with the attach file.
Decompress it in the examples directory.
I've used that source to dump and reprogram my Sti5518 FTA 6900 with ucTAP.
This was a test prior to paly with the Sti5105.
Perhaps you will have to recompile it for your particular config.
Test it first with go5518.bat
Sorry, I've not enough time right now to retest that compilation on my 5518 box.
I've compressed the full directory and subs.
I don't remember if each subdir is really necessary.
You will have to play with the cfg files.
It will be better to compile it with the simple dos command (nmake <mak file>

Hi guys.

Again, you're great. Thx a lot @YLG80, @slugworth and all the members.
Will do as instructed and report back later on...
No need for apologies @YLG80 for I'm the one who's supposed to test it.

Best regards.

Take multiple full 2meg dumps with the conventional programs like jkeys
or skymax/jtag_up before you start playing with erasing and programming.

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

Well, I must have read your mind @slugworth. I've just finished dumping the 2MB flash with jKeys...
Before I start to do anything with ucTAP, I intend to confirm that the dumped file is a valid one by comparing it with several others.
Thx for the advice.

@YLG80, I think I'll have to compile for I couldn't find any .lku in the compressed file. I'll try my best doing it but, I think it won't be enough. We'll see, tomorrow...
If I get stuck, I can always come back here asking for advice from you guys.

Best regards.

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
I completely agree with Slugworth on memory backup with Jkeys.
On the zip file, I thought I had included the lku.
I will double check tonight and update the zip file.

Hi guys.

Thx @YLG80. Anyway, it will be good for me trying to compile and get the .lku myself. Like so, I'll learn a bit more how to "play" with it...
Haven't had much time for testing today.
I'm going to try it now.

Best regards.

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

Well, I tried to do it by myself but I'm stuck. I've already overcome some difficulties, namely ucTAP and target configuration, but I need help on this one:

Looking at the goflash.bat (already modified for some of my settings):
Code:

@echo off start st20run -i mb5518um.cfg -t sti5518box flashprg_c2b0.lku -b mb275 -p gsa6900.bin -a 0x7FE00000
I think the error would have to do with "mb275", but I'm not sure. If it is, where is this motherboard? On \STM\ST20R2.3.1\board there are the motherboard's configuration files but nothing like "mb275". The closest I can find is "dcu_mb275a.cfg"... Best regards.

Re:STi5518 attempts 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys.

I'm sorry but on my previous post I was mistaken when I said I couldn't find "mb275". I was looking in the wrong place...
Of course it's there, on the .zip file @YLG80 attached to his previous post.
Now, I have to try to find what is different between mb275 and my own board settings or if there's another board closest to the configuration I have. Not an easy task for a noob like me...

Best regards.
